HORNGARD returns readers to Elizabeth Moon’s classic high-fantasy Paksenarrion Universe, and will be published in January 2027.
Nature abhors a vacuum. And the empty throne of Horngard is no exception. In the absence of a king, the land has been given over to bandits, its potential squandered, its people exploited. A strategically important land, the powerful Dragon moves to install one of his own dragonkin there.
But there are other forces who covet Horngard. And they will not let it go without a fight. . . .
The fates of two pairs of siblings are the key to Horngard’s future: Mikeli and Camwyn, Gwenno and Aris. Will they have what it takes to triumph?
Elizabeth Moon said: “I’m thrilled to join forces with Broken Binding as we head into a milestone year for my work in the United Kingdom. Early in 2027, it’s the thirtieth anniversary of the first British edition of a Paksenarrion novel - and what better way to celebrate than with a Broken Binding edition of the brand new Paks World novel, HORNGARD. And at the end of 2027, Broken Binding marks the silver anniversary of THE SPEED OF DARK, a finalist for the Arthur C. Clarke Award, and a Nebula winner. It’s going to be grand!”
Marcus Gipps, Publishing Director of The Broken Binding said: “I’ve been a fan of Elizabeth Moon for ages, and it’s a delight to be able to bring these books to a UK audience. HORNGARD is a great traditional fantasy which feels new, and THE SPEED OF DARK is a classic of SF which deserves to be rediscovered.”
Stevie Finegan, from Zeno Agency added: “Members of The Broken Binding team have long been fans of Elizabeth Moon and I'm delighted to finally have them take on the exciting new fantasy which is HORNGARD as well as the modern classic that is SPEED OF DARK. I have been overwhelmed by their enthusiasm from the get-go and I can't wait to have them bring beautiful editions of both books to SFF fans across the UK/Comm."
Joshua Bilmes, President and Founder, JABberwocky Literary Agency said: “We’re happy to be partnering on more and more work with Broken Binding, and our newest partnership is for work new and old from Elizabeth Moon, an author I’ve been honored to work with for forty years. SPEED OF DARK is one of Elizabeth’s most enduring works, and HORNGARD is Elizabeth’s newest, and I look forward to seeing the new chapters in Elizabeth’s acclaimed career that she and Broken Binding will now be collaborating upon.
